Rodrigo Duterte made one important appointment, the President nominated a new ambassador to the United States, Philippine Daily Inquirer reports.
The diplomatic ties between US and Philippines can become stronger after the nomination of new Philippines ambassador to the US. That vacancy was unfilled of more than one year, last week, at last, Malacañang Palace announced the name of new envoy – Jose Manuel ‘Babe’ Romualdez.
Ernesto Abella, the spokesman of president, said Rodrigo Duterte had tapped Jose Manuel Babe Romualdez as Manila’s new envoy to Washington.
“We are confident that with Romualdez at the helm of the Philippine embassy at Washington, DC, will further strengthen PH-US relations and promote stronger cooperation between the two countries,”
Mr Abella said.
The spokesman added that Romualdez is a very experienced diplomat who served concurrently as the Philippine representative to Haiti, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and Grenadines and Saint Lucia. Now, his career will be continued in Washington, the key partner to the Philippines.
US-Philippines diplomatic ties got stronger
The US Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim congratulated media executive Jose Manuel “Babe” Romualdez on his nomination as Philippine Ambassador to the United States.
Shortly after Malacañang announced Romualdez’s nomination, Kim expressed a hope on the further cooperation and mutual understanding in a tweet. Recently, the relations between the Philippines and the US was rocky, especially after the Obama administration publicly criticised Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs.
