Queen marks the 150th anniversary of Canada’s formation with platinum maple-leaf brooch

Queen Elizabeth’s new portrait was taken by Toronto-based photographer Ian Leslie Macdonald, the photo was released to mark the 150th anniversary of Canada’s formation. Her Majesty’s legendary platinum maple-leaf brooch pinned to her dress.

That ceremonial object has a long story, the item set with diamonds, it was given to her mother by her father George VI in 1939 on their trip to Canada – the first tour of the country by a reigning monarch.
