Queen Máxima, King Willem-Alexander visited Vatican on 20-23 June

Queen Máxima of The Netherlands and her husband King Willem-Alexander have finished their state visit to Italy and Vatican City. On June 22nd, Pope Francis welcomed the Dutch monarch and his wife in the Papal leave.

The Dutch King and Queen were on a 4-day state visit to Italy from June 20-23, which included a visit to Vatican on June 22nd. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima had a meeting with Pope Francis, later they had a conversation with the Vatican government and Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State.

Vatican code requires black dress and veil for women

Vatican is the place with the most strict dress code, all the women should wear black only and to cover their heads with the veil. Queen Máxima opted the stylish black blouse with a long skirt, her accessories were the black lace veil, large pearl and diamond earrings.

King Willem-Alexander wore also the dark suit with a grey tie, the outfits of the Royals were well coordinated. Queen’s outfit is one of the most formal in recent years, this woman used to wear bright and vibrant colours in daily life.

King Willem-Alexander gifted the Pope with a staff attributed to Willem van Oranje, which is on loan from the Catalan Jesuit convent of Sant Cugat. From April to October 2018, the staff can we viewed at the National Military Museum in Soesterberg, for an exhibition on Willem van Oranje.
