The Chinese Foreign Ministry called on the United States to stop denigrating the country over the Ukrainian issue.

The United States must stop indiscriminately imposing unilateral sanctions and denigrating China in the context of the Ukrainian issue, a spokesman for the Department of North America and Oceania at the Chinese Foreign Ministry said ahead of the visit of US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

Earlier, the White House said Sullivan would visit China on August 27-29.

“On the Ukrainian issue, China’s position is open, we will continue to push for reconciliation and promote negotiations and political resolution, and carry out shuttle diplomacy. The US must stop indiscriminately applying unilateral sanctions and exercising extraterritorial jurisdiction, and stop vilifying and pressuring China,” the unnamed official said at a briefing ahead of the visit. His words are quoted by China Central Television.

He also stressed that China will continue to take decisive measures to protect its interests and legitimate rights.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, a new round of Sino-American strategic communications will take place as part of Sullivan’s visit. According to a representative of the North American and Oceania Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Sullivan have already held three rounds of strategic communications – in Vienna, Malta and Bangkok. The dialogue, he emphasized, was “substantive and constructive, positive results were achieved.”

According to a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, this is the first visit to China by the US Presidential National Security Representative after an eight-year break, as well as the first visit to China for Sullivan. The diplomat noted that “for both sides this is an important measure to implement the consensus reached at the meeting of the heads of the two states in San Francisco.” He noted that after the meeting in San Francisco, the parties maintained interaction in various fields, and exchanges between the two peoples expanded. At the same time, the diplomat noted, the United States continues to restrain and suppress China, which it resolutely opposes. “The China-US relationship is still at the critical point of stopping its decline and stabilizing,” he noted.
