A vote of no confidence in the government was put forward in Moldova.

Deputies of the opposition Bloc of Communists and Socialists in Moldova put forward a vote of no confidence in the government of the country, MP from the bloc Petru Burduja said at a parliamentary meeting.

“The faction of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists, deputies of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, declare that they have signed a vote of no confidence in the government. The Republic of Moldova has been led by the PDS government (the ruling party “Action and Solidarity”) for the last three years, which is determined to sacrifice the national interests of the country, the well-being of citizens and the future of our children in exchange for applause and sympathy from foreign partners,” he said from the rostrum of parliament.

Burduja noted that, like three years ago, the republic is still dealing with a deep energy crisis, and the authorities do not have a clear policy and strategy to protect citizens from its consequences and to ensure the country’s energy security.

“Contrary to these promises, the government has achieved practically nothing in the energy sector. On the contrary, the situation has become increasingly degraded and worsened,” the deputy emphasized.

Moldova has been experiencing an economic crisis since 2021, which is aggravated by rising inflation and energy prices, as well as a reorientation of sales markets due to the inaccessibility of traditional supply routes to the CIS countries. In 2022, inflation reached a record 30.2%, and gas tariffs increased almost seven times, for electricity – almost four times. In 2023, inflation was 13.4%.

Rising prices for energy resources have led to rising utility debts and anti-government protests.
