The European Union may impose measures against the largest American IT companies

The European Union is reportedly contemplating retaliatory measures against major American IT companies in response to potential tariffs imposed by the United States, according to the Financial Times.

Citing unnamed sources, the newspaper revealed that the EU is prepared to target Silicon Valley firms if US President Donald Trump follows through on his threats to levy duties on European goods.

The European Commission is reportedly exploring the use of an “anti-coercion tool,” which would enable the bloc to implement measures impacting the American service sector, particularly the operations of leading US tech companies. The EU is currently evaluating “all options” to respond to potential US actions.

The tensions escalated after President Trump announced on February 1 that he would impose import duties on EU goods, accusing Brussels of treating Washington “terribly.” In response, a European Commission spokesperson stated on February 2 that while the EU had no confirmed information about additional US tariffs on European products, it was prepared to “respond decisively” if such measures were enacted.
