Trudeau will resign after the election of a new leader of the ruling party.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his intention to leave the post of head of government and leader of the Liberal Party after the election of a new leader of the party.

“Throughout my career, every success I have achieved has been made possible by the support and encouragement of my family. Yesterday at dinner I shared this decision with my children, and today I share it with you: I intend to resign as leader of the Liberal Party Canada and the Prime Minister of Canada, as soon as the party elects a new leader,”  Trudeau said, whose speech was broadcast by all leading Canadian television channels.

Trudeau stressed that he will continue to perform his duties until this process is completed.

Earlier, the media reported that more than 50 deputies from the Liberal Party, whose leader is the current prime minister, came to the consensus that Justin Trudeau should leave his post. The leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP) of Canada, Jagmeet Singh, also called on Trudeau to resign and announced a vote for a vote of no confidence in the Canadian leader at the next meeting of the House of Commons.
