US President-elect Donald announced candidates for the positions of US Ambassadors to Portugal and Malta; they will be entrepreneur John Arrigo and Somers Farkas, who began her career in the modeling business.
Arrigo is a member of a family associated with Arrigo Automotive Group, a family-owned auto dealership in the West Palm Beach area. He is also a member of Mar-a-Lago Golf Club and Trump International Golf Club.
⠀
“I have known John for a long time. I am confident that he will do a great job for our country and will always put America first,” Trump said in a statement.
⠀
Farkas is a model, philanthropist and documentary producer. She previously served on the President’s White House Fellowship Commission and has raised millions of dollars for charity. She is a strong supporter of first responders, a trustee of the NYPD Foundation, and the initiator of Crime Stoppers, an anti-crime fund.
⠀
“I am pleased to announce that Somers Farkas will be the next Ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Malta,” the President introduced the second candidate.
⠀
The nominations of Farkas and Arrigo must go through the confirmation process of the US Senate.
Following his recent election victory, President Trump is announcing appointments to his team at an unprecedented rate, favoring his allies and successful businessmen. Some of the candidates have raised concerns among the public and experts due to their lack of diplomatic training.
