Environmental activists interrupted the speech of the head of the US Federal Reserve at an IMF conference.

Environmental activists on Thursday interrupted US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s speech at an International Monetary Fund (IMF) research conference in Washington, forcing the regulator’s head, accompanied by security, to temporarily leave the event.

During Powell’s speech, a group of several people burst onto the stage with a “climate disaster” sign and began shouting slogans calling for an end to the use of fossil fuels.

As a result, the head of the Federal Reserve, accompanied by security, was forced to temporarily leave the stage and the meeting room. In addition, due to the appearance of activists, the remaining panelists, including First Deputy Managing Director of the IMF Gita Gopinath and the head of the Central Bank of Israel Amir Yaron, also had to leave the stage and wait for security.

After the security managed to remove the activists, the Fed chairman’s speech resumed.
