Iran faced sanctions that trade in gold and other precious metals, and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has banned holding talks with the US. Iran’s supreme leader said that Donald Trump’s offer of unconditional dialogue in a bid to improve bilateral ties, Independent reported.
While the White House insists that Iran’s only chance of avoiding the sanctions would be to accept President Trump’s offer to negotiate for a tougher nuclear deal, Iranian supreme leader bans ‘any talks’ with the US. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also accused the Iranian government of economic mismanagement in the face of a new bunch of the US sanctions.
Obeying Mr Khamenei’s rule, Iranian officials have rejected the offer to hold the talks with Washington and it is the first time Mr Khamenei has publicly commented in a very undiplomatic manner.
“They (the Americans) are exaggerating the possibility of a war with Iran. There will be no war… We have never started a war and they will not confront Iran militarily,”
Iran’s supreme leader warned.
Mr Khamenei, who has the final say on policy in the Islamic Republic, said Mr Trump’s reneging of the Obama-era nuclear deal was evidence America cannot be trusted.
Iran stepped into the line of ‘economic war’
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has ordered a purge of Iranian banking and finance officials in response to its economic crisis after the head of the judiciary said that the country was facing “economic war”. Iran’s supreme leader also has banned any US talks after Trump’s offer regarding nuclear deal.
State-run media reported last week about the wave of arrests throughout the country: 67 officials had been sacked and arrested on suspicion of crimes ranging from corruption to economic sabotage. There have been popular protests against economic mismanagement and attacks by conservatives on the reformist government of President Rouhani.
