Iraq intends to hold an international meeting to discuss the situation in Syria.

Baghdad will take the initiative to host a meeting of several countries to discuss the situation in Syria. This was stated by Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein at a joint press conference in the Iraqi capital with his Syrian and Iranian colleagues.

“We emphasize our support for the Syrian people by sending humanitarian aid, and Baghdad will also take the initiative to hold a meeting of a number of countries to discuss the Syrian issue,” the minister said.

Hussein also called for “an urgent convening of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level” and said that Baghdad would “use all diplomatic means to achieve a solution to the situation in Syria.

“Iraq’s position is clear: the security of Syria and Iraq is linked to each other and to the security of neighboring countries,” he emphasized.

On Tuesday it became known that an emergency meeting on Syria of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level will be held on December 8 at the request of Damascus.

Earlier, a trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Iraq, Iran and Syria – Fuad Hussein, Abbas Araghchi and Bassam Sabbagh – ended in Baghdad, at which security issues related to the current aggravation of the situation in Syria were discussed.
