Former US President Donald Trump, who won the Republican primary in Iowa the day before by a wide margin, reiterated that he gets along well with Russian President Vladimir Putin and will quickly resolve the conflict in Ukraine if elected president.
⠀
Previously, Trump has repeatedly stated that if he is re-elected, he intends to achieve a resolution of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine in just 24 hours.
⠀
“We get along well with Putin, that’s not bad, that’s good… I know (Russian President Vladimir) Putin very well, I know (Vladimir) Zelensky very well. We will tie them up. We will resolve this (conflict) very quickly. It would have happened and it wouldn’t have happened, but now it’s happened on a larger scale than people realize… We’ll stop it because it’s sad, it never should have started,” Trump said.
⠀
Iowa became the first state to hold events to determine party nominees. The significance of the results of the primary elections in this state is primarily psychological: news about the victory or defeat of a particular candidate is circulated in the media, creating the appropriate background.
⠀
In the state as a whole, Trump received 51% of the vote, according to data published on the Iowa Republican Party website. In second place is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis with 21.2% of the vote, Haley has 19.1% of the vote. Trump leads in all Iowa counties except one – Johnson, where Haley came out on top, ahead of the ex-president by one vote.
