The US will not ease sanctions against Iran, the State Department said.

The United States will not ease sanctions against Iran despite giving Tehran access to $6 billion in frozen assets as part of a prisoner swap deal, the State Department said.

“We are not lifting or easing sanctions on Iran,” a State Department spokesman said.

According to the American foreign policy department, Washington will continue to counter human rights violations by the Iranian authorities, support for terrorism, destabilizing actions abroad and support for Russia in the conflict over Ukraine.

The State Department confirmed that department head Antony Blinken approved the transfer of funds from South Korea to closed accounts in Qatar. The department added that the United States will release five Iranian prisoners in exchange for five Americans detained in Iran.
