The US review of Turkey’s F-16 application has expired.

The fifteen-day process of consideration by the American side of Turkey’s application for the purchase of F-16 fighters has been completed, there are no objections to the sale, the Dünya newspaper writes.

Turkey has asked the US for 40 new F-16 Block 70 fighters and upgrade kits for the 79 aircraft in its inventory.

“After the U.S. Administration sent formal notification to Congress on the sale of F-16 aircraft to Turkey on January 26, the statutory 15-day review process was completed without any obstacles to stop the sale. Thus, the 15-day congressional review period Following official notification from the US administration, it ended last night US time, and there are no obstacles to the start of the sale process between the relevant agencies in accordance with the US Arms Export Control Act (AECA),” the newspaper said.

According to the AECA law, this period is 15 days for NATO member countries and 30 days for non-NATO countries.

“The Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the House Foreign Relations Committee have the authority to evaluate and, if necessary, object to the sale of arms to foreign countries. The Senate and House Foreign Relations Committees announced their approval of the sale of F-16s to Turkey on January 26, in day of notification,” the publication reported.
