The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova resigned.

Moldavian Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu announced that he is resigning from the post of Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Republic’s Foreign Ministry.

“With the confidence that a lot of good has been accomplished in these two and a half years, I announce that I am resigning from the post of deputy prime minister and foreign minister,” Popescu said at a briefing.

Earlier, a number of Moldovan media outlets, citing sources, reported on impending reshuffles in the Cabinet. In particular, it was reported that Popescu would leave the post of Foreign Minister and become the chief negotiator with the EU. Deputy Speaker of Parliament Mihai Popsoi was expected to take his place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These rumors were denied by the head of the Moldovan presidential administration, Adrian Balutal.
