The first deliveries of Zuzana 2 howitzers under the contract between Slovakia and Ukraine are expected this summer, Slovak President Zuzana Caputova said on Friday.

Earlier on Friday, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine and Slovakia had signed a contract for the joint production of 16 155mm Zuzana 2 howitzers.

“Our countries managed to conclude a contract for the production of 16 Slovak Zuzana howitzers for Ukraine. The first (howitzers) could be delivered this summer,” Chaputova said at a joint press conference following a meeting with Zelensky.

According to her, joint work is planned on a new type of howitzers, the production of ammunition, and Slovak companies will also join the process of demining the territory of Ukraine.

The Zuzana 2 is a 155mm self-propelled artillery mount manufactured in Slovakia on an eight-wheeled TATRA chassis.

Artillery of 155 mm caliber is used by NATO countries. The United States supplied Ukraine with long-range M777 howitzers of 155 mm caliber, Ukrainian troops are actively using them to shell the cities of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics. Also, the Ukrainian troops were supplied with German PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery mounts, Polish Krab self-propelled guns and French CAESAR self-propelled guns using shells of this caliber.
