Nearly half of French people fail to save money for the future.

Nearly 20% of French people are in financial debt, up three percentage points in a year, according to a new study by Ipsos.

“Approximately one in five French people (18%) live in debt … the figure is up three points in a year!” the authors of the study write.


Nearly half of French people (47%) fail to save money for the future, according to the study.


It is noted that the French are experiencing record difficulties in covering everyday expenses. Thus, 45% of the French find it difficult to pay medical bills, the same number of respondents experience difficulties with paying electricity bills.

The survey was conducted by telephone from 17 to 18 June among 996 respondents aged 16 and over. Statistical error is not specified.
