Canada has stated that it is impossible to defeat Hamas at the expense of the suffering of Palestine.

Canada, Australia and New Zealand believe that Israel’s victory over the Palestinian Hamas movement should not be achieved at the cost of the suffering of the Palestinian civilian population, the three countries said in a statement released by the Canadian Cabinet on Tuesday.

“We are alarmed by the reduction of safe space for civilians in the Gaza Strip. The price of defeating Hamas cannot be the continued suffering of the entire Palestinian civilian population,” the statement said.

Allies also expressed concern about the growing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and the ongoing risks to Palestinian civilians. According to the position of the three countries, in the current conditions it is necessary to expand and stabilize access of humanitarian assistance to the region.

“The recent pause in hostilities has enabled the release of over 100 hostages and contributed to increased humanitarian access to affected civilians. We recognize the importance of persistent diplomatic efforts by the United States, Qatar and Egypt to secure this pause and regret that it could not be extended,” the joint statement said.
