West Virginia official fired after calling Michelle Obama ‘ape in heels’

West Virginia official fired after her racist tweet about Michelle Obama. Pamela Ramsey Taylor from the Clay County Development Corp. director referred to First Lady Michelle Obama as an ‘ape in heels.’ The post had the consequences.

An official from West Virginia expresses her thought through Twitter, where compared Michelle Obama with ‘ape in heels’. Literally, Ms Pamela Ramsey Taylor wrote:

“It will be refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady in the White House. I’m tired of seeing a Ape in heels.”

Such a racist post caused a real fire in the social network and media. The director of a state and federal-funded nonprofit in West Virginia was fired after writing this post.

In fact, Pamela Ramsey Taylor decided to make a compliment to Melania Trump, the soon-to-be First lady of the US. Even in this case, Ms Taylor should select the words more carefully.

Te racist and offensive post also embroiled the mayor of Clay, a small town near Charleston. Clay Mayor Beverly Whaling replied to the comment,

“Just made my day Pam.”

A barrage of criticism made Taylor delete the slighting post, but internet remember everything. The screenshots of the exchange have been shared widely on social media. Such an activity resulted in the removal of both officials on Sunday night.

Racist scandal in West Virginia, results

The racist scandal in the small Clay County where just 1 percent is black, got a resonance in the US media. According to 2015 census data estimates 98.2 percent of Clay’s inhabitants are white. The Washington Post reported on Monday that ‘More than three-quarters of the presidential votes cast in the county went to Trump’ .

After the wave of criticism, both of officials appear to have deleted their Facebook pages. But Taylor had earlier posted an apology saying that her message ‘may be interpreted as racist but was in no way intended to be’. Ms Taylor also added that she has received death threats over her non-racist post.

Clay mayor has also apologised in a statement to The Washington Post:

“My comment was not intended to be racist at all. I was referring to my day being made for change in the White House! I am truly sorry for any hard feeling this may have caused! Those who know me know that I’m not of any way racist!

“Again, I would like to apologize for this getting out of hand!”
