The Chinese Foreign Ministry called the G7 statements about the threat of Beijing untenable.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said the G7 will not be able to “fool the world” by calling China a threat while violating international law.

“Some G7 members have called China the ‘biggest threat to global security and prosperity’. Seriously?” Hua Chunying wrote on her Twitter page.

The diplomat noted that China is the “number one engine” of the global economy, “contributing to more growth than all the members of the G7 combined“, and is also the main trading partner of more than 140 countries in the world and the second largest contributor to the financing of UN operations to maintain peace.

“If China is a threat, then what are some members of the G7 who start wars with sovereign states, overthrow the legitimate government in other countries, withdraw from multilateral agreements and force other countries to cut supply chains?” Hua Chunying wrote, adding that “the real world cannot be brainwashed or fooled.”

The diplomat also published an infographic showing which international agreements the US has withdrawn from in recent years. “Just a reminder of how the US ‘obeys’ international rules,” she wrote.

Among the agreements indicated in the infographics are the Paris Agreement, UNESCO, the INF Treaty, the Open Skies Treaty and others.
