Queen Elizabeth II said that the internal catering staff will now only use china plates, glasses and recyclable paper cups as well as biodegradable packaging for takeaway food items. The monarch bans single-use plastic on Royal estates, supporting the environmental initiatives throughout the UK.
The British royals always urged to the ecological responsibility, Queen has banned single-use plastic, confirmed Buckingham Palace. Since now, water at meetings and briefings will be served only in glass bottles, china plates, glasses and recyclable paper cups are becoming the rule.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “Across the organisation, the Royal household is committed to reducing its environmental impact.
“As part of that, we have taken a number of practical steps to cut back on the use of plastics. At all levels, there’s a strong desire to tackle this issue.”
Last week, Prince Charles told during the conference in Norfolk that farming should be more traditional, while Buckingham Palace ‘green’ newsletter with updates will also regularly go out to staff, and recycling of certain plastics will form part of waste contracts.
It comes after Prince Charles said the world seemed to turn a “blind eye” to the mounting evidence of plastic pollution in the oceans. Speaking to environmentalists in London last month, the Prince of Wales said that “we cannot, indeed must not, allow this situation to continue”.
Queen’s son gave his backing to the Sky Ocean Rescue campaign, describing the build-up of plastic waste in our oceans as “one of the most troubling environmental trends”.
