French Open 2017 champion Jelena Ostapenko: Anything is possible

French Open in 2017 finished with the big surprise, the Latvian Jelena Ostapenko won the Grand Slam tournament defeating Simona Halep. The unseeded tennis player really believes now that ‘anything is possible’.

Jelena Ostapenko, the 20-year-old player from Latvia, became a winner of the French Open 2017, she beatRomania’s Simona Halep in three sets, 4-6 6-4 6-3. In the final match, Ostapenko won another important title – the first unseeded woman to win at Roland Garros since 1933.

Jelena’s path to the victory was amazing, the Latvian hit 54 winners on her way to a ‘dream’. She said in an interview:

“I always had the possibility I could hit the ball really hard. If I have a chance to go for a shot, I’m trying.”

It was only Ostapenko’s eighth appearance at one of the four tennis majors, the fewest by a champion since Maria Sharapova won Wimbledon in 2004. According to Jelena, she just wanted to hit the ball, that is the secret of her unbelievable path to the 2017 French Open tournament.

It is worth to note that Jelena Ostapenko turned 20 on Thursday, so, her prize £1.65m for Paris victory is a wonderful gift for the birthday girl.
